When Parrot AR Drone was launched in 2012, its great features enticed many drone enthusiasts.

But, unknown to them, Parrot had even a more advanced version in mind – the Parrot AR Drone 3.0. Not that the new version has come to erode the previous one though, but there are some high-performance features infused into the new model which makes drone flying, either for pleasure or business, a memorable experience. In terms of size, the Parrot AR Drone 2.0 is a little heavier than its successor. With its hull in place, the version 2.0 is measured at 57x57 cm, but without the hull, it is 45x45 cm. In contrast, the Parrot AR Drone 3.0 is a featherweight that’s easier to use indoors. It’s 38x33 cm with its hull, and 32x28 cm without it. Although there’s really no issue landing the Parrot AR Drone 2.0, the Parrot AR Drone 3.0 has been fortified with updated motor and propeller mounts that ensure the drone is safe from being completely shattered in case of rough landing. However, that depends on how it’s controlled. As for the controller, both the Parrot AR Drone 2.0 and the Parrot AR Drone 3.0 are equipped with iOS Android App for functions like taking off and auto-landing, direction movement adjustment and taking photo snapshot and recording video.

However, the Wi-Fi range for each model is different. While the version 2.0 has a paltry line-of-sight of 200 feet range, that of the Parrot AR Drone 3.0 is 525 with line of sight and Wi-Fi of 802. The new version 3.0 also comes standard with a sky controller and a Wi-Fi antenna array of 36dBm, which makes it defy the limited strength of normal wireless. With this, the drone can fly as high as 2 kilometers away while still being controlled with an effective joystick for easier piloting. It's just an 18 MIPS AVR CPU per motor controller for the Parrot AR Drone 2.0. Superior video quality is another feature that differentiates Parrot AR Drone 3.0 from its predecessor. It boasts of 8GB storage space and can record up to 1080p of flight. It's 2.0 version, on the other hand, can only record 720p with a storage of 4GB. Similarly, the Parrot AR Drone 3.0 is incorporated with a huge 14 megapixels with fisheye lens of 180 degrees, which means that it can conveniently look to its side and up at the sky and down at the ground without it physically moving while its 2.0 version has only a wide angle lens of 92 diagonals.
