All’E3 2010, però, ha sorpreso tutti presentando AR.Drone, un quadrocottero praticamente identico a quello sviluppato recentemente nell’Università della Pennsylvania, che può essere controllato con iPhone ed iPad. La grande novità è la webcam frontale di cui è dotato questo robot volante, che trasmette tutto ciò che vede a chi lo controlla in remoto e che, soprattutto, ha consentito lo sviluppo di una serie di applicazioni videoludiche molto interessanti. Tutti i giochi che sfrutteranno l’AR.

Drone saranno, infatti, basati sulla realtà aumentata, ovvero aggiungeranno nemici ed ostacoli immaginari a ciò che verrà da esso ripreso: sull’App Store è già disponibile il primo della serie, AR.Free Flight, che consente appunto di controllare il drone in volo e compiere splendide evoluzioni; tra alcuni mesi, poi, ne arriveranno altri, a partire da AR.Drone Gate, dove il giocatore dovrà scoprire e richiudere i buchi neri virtuali che si apriranno nelle nostre case e nei nostri giardini, ed AR.Flying Ace, che consentirà di duellare all'ultimo sangue con gli altri droni. Sarà inoltre possibile modificare e personalizzare il proprio quadrocottero, un po’ come avviene ormai da anni con altri giocattoli da collezione, come i modellini di auto Mini4wd, e sarà disponibile a partire da settembre al prezzo di circa 250€... senza iPhone, è ovvio! Il prezzo non è certamente alla portata di tutti, ma a giudicare dalle immagini il giocattolo merita d'essere provato.Agli appassionati di letteratura fantascientifica sarà sicuramente tornato alla memoria il racconto “Dogfight” di William Gibson, contenuto nell'antologia “La notte che bruciammo Chrome”: è davvero impressionante il numero di tecnologie immaginate dal noto scrittore canadese che hanno trovato applicazioni reali negli ultimi anni.
