Falling on 25 November this year, it's the ideal time to buy your holiday-season gifts at lower prices. Black Friday is now the biggest shopping day of the year in the UK. Introduced to the UK by Amazon, its effect on British stores has increased year on year. Last year’s figures were the most staggering so far: British shops saw an incredible 223 per cent increase in their daily sales average according to insights from technology company Ve. Despite its name the discount day isn’t limited to a one-day event — at least not anymore. In recent years the bargain bonanza has turned into an extended set of sales, partly to attract more customers and partly to ease the strain on shop employees.

We've rounded up the best deals from 2015 to give you an idea of what to expect... Carphone Warehouse sold a Samsung and Apple phone contract every three seconds, while Giffgaff reduced the prices of some of its best selling Samsung and Sony smartphones by up to £100. parrot ar drone error messagesMobile phone retailer Three knocked over £100 off the Samsaung Galaxy S6 Edge and reduced the Sony Xperia Z5 from £529 to £370. Last year the coveted Apple Watch was on sale at John Lewis for £399 and at Amazon for £309.99. This year the second Apple Watch came out, so with a newer model on the market there could well be discounts on the original. John Lewis reduced both the Withings Activité and the Withings Pulse Ox by 25 per cent and Currys offered discounts on many of their Pebble smartwatches. Amazon knocked over 50 per cent off the Garmin Vivoactive GPS smartwatch, almost two thirds off the Sony Universal smartwatch 2 and over a third off the waterproof Motorola Moto 360 smartwatch and activity tracker.

Ebuyer, one of the UK’s leading online electrical retailers, offered £110 off HP laptops last year, while Lenovo offered 33 per cent off premium products and Currys PC World knocked £200 off selected HP products. eBay, who launched their Black Friday deals early last year, reduced the 13" Macbook Pro to £749; meanwhile Amazon sold the ASUS 11" chromebook for £129.99, reducing it by £90. Amazon reduced the Fire HDX 8.9 tablet — with HDX display, Wi-Fi and 4G — by 38 per cent and cut £30 from the Kindle Paperwhite. The iPad Air was reduced by £70 at Argos and £60 at Tesco, while EE sold the Samsung Galaxy Tab A for only £29.99 upfront, along with a monthly cost of £18. Amazon reduced the 500GB PS4 console to £199.99, while GAME offered the PS4 console — plus Call of Duty: Black Ops III, FIFA 16 and The Last Of Us: Remastered — for a total of £299.99. For Xbox devotees, GAME offered the console (along with FIFA 16, Lego Marvel Super Heroes and Goat Simulator) for £249.99.

John Lewis cut £100 from the splash-proof TomTom Bandit action camera, Argos knocked £140 off the GoPro Hero 3+ silver action camera, and Amazon cut an impressive £190 from the Canon EF-S 55-250mm lens. Jessops had a variety of combo deals, including offering the Nikon D7200 with a 18-105mm lens and free battery grip (worth £229) for a total of £889. Plus, Currys sold the Canon EOS 100D with 18-55mm lens for £299 and knocked £90 off the Canon PowerShot S200 advanced compact camera, selling it for just £79. LaptopsDirect.co.uk cut two thirds off the iQ Gravity Bluetooth levitating (yes, levitating) speaker, selling it at £34.97, while Argos reduced the highly coveted Beats by Dr. Dre Pill 2.0 wireless speakers by £40 to £129.99. cut the Samsung HT-J5150 5.1 surround home cinema system by £160 to £199. Plus, John Lewis knocked £130 from their own-brand soundbar and subwoofer set, selling it for £199.95 Argos knocked £268 off the Veho VXD-001-B Muvi drone and 50 per cent off the Revell Control Formula Q Quadcopter drone.

Meanwhile, Wex Photographic reduced the DJI Phantom 3 Professional Quadcopter drone by £80 to £1079.  had deals across their whole range of house appliances last Black Friday, including discounts on Bosch food processors, Dyson hoovers and coffee machines. Argos reduced the Philips wireless headphones by £70 and John Lewis cut the price of their Bose QuietComfort Noise Cancelling QC20 acoustic in-ear headphones by £110. So when can I get shopping? Amazon have already started reducing prices and plan to end their sales at 23:59 on Friday 25 November. Plus, Debenhams and Tesco will launch their Black Friday deals on Monday 21 November. The shopping hacks to have up your sleeve You don’t want to miss out on a coveted item because you were too slow off the mark, so make sure you set up online accounts with your favourite retailers ahead of time.

Check the opening times of stores you want to visit, download retailer's apps and read customer reviews of products you've got your eye on. It's also a good idea to bookmark products ahead of time, sign up to retailers’ newsletters and start following their social media accounts (just make sure they’re verified by a blue tick to avoid scam deals). Plus, sign up to Amazon Prime to benefit from an exclusive 30-minute early access period to all their Lightning Deals (offers which are only available at certain points of the day and for a short amount of time each). On the day itself remember to shop around: no matter how taken you are by a certain deal, another retailer may have reduced the same product by even more. Use My Supermarket to compare prices and take a look at Flubit, which generates cheaper prices on Amazon products for you within three hours. Which shops aren't taking part? Black Friday may only have been in the UK for a couple of years, but it’s already such an annual staple that it seems odd when retailers don’t get in on the action.
