John started piping in 1969. He climbed the ranks to become an Open class professional piper. He is a 4 time US Open champion and also won just about every major Open contest in America, and was P/M of a grade 1 band. He also competed around the Scottish solo circuit picking up prizes, and played in both the Silver Medal and Gold Medal competitions in Oban and Inverness, figuring in the price list on a few occasions. These drone reds are: steady, easy to strike in, easy and efficient to tune, and are moisture resistant. They have exceptional tonal quality and take a minimum of air. Cane drone reeds come in sets of 2 tenors and one bass reed. Each set of drone reeds are matched for pitch before we send them out. This will ensure that you are able to properly set up your bagpipe and have optimum tone for your bagpipe. Each package comes with a little sheet of maintenance information for the cane drone reeds. The carbon fibre bass reed produces a deep, strong bass tone and is extremely steady. It comes fitted with a flat silicone bridle for accurate and easy strength adjustment. A tuning screw in the detachable nose cone allows for extra pitch adjustment.
This set comes complete with our standard pitch tenor reeds whose smooth, rich tone compliment the bass drone perfectly. The tenors are also available in a high pitch variation. Crozier - Cane Tongue Crozier Cane Drone - These reeds are the second generation of the original “Ross Reed” that was first manufactured in 1985. The Crozier Cane Reeds are equal to their predecessor in operation and performance but with a modern body design. Due to the increasing pitch of bagpipes in the last 20 years, the new Crozier Cane Reeds are now made to a higher pitch to suit today’s piper. Crozier - Carbon Fibre Tongue Crozier Drone reeds are made in Australia. They are being used in many of the top pipe bands today. They have a plastic body and a carbon fiber tongue. They will give your pipes a nice full bodied tone. Sold in sets of 2 tenor, 1 bass. Drone Reed Extenders (pack of 3) - This product allows drones to lower on the tuning pin. This will help you attain better control and better overall sound.
The extenders go into the reed seat and are easily installed. Please note, these are not useful on every set of pipes. Most pipes tune properly, and there are not necessary, but if your drones constantly tune too high on the tuning pins, then this is a product to solve that situation and give you the sound and control you are looking for. Drone reeds not included. Ezeedrone Bass Drone Reed - Although most drone reeds are sold in sets of three. The Ezee Drone bass reed can be bought individually. They are available in Long, Short and Inverted. Depending on the make of your bagpipe, it might be necessary to get an individual bass reed for optimum tuning of your bagpipe. Ezeedrone Increased Absorption Reeds Ezeedrone reeds are made in Scotland. They are being used in many of the top pipe bands, and many of the top solo players today. Ezeedrpne with Increased Absorption can prolong playing time for pipers who experience problems with moisture resulting from the use of a sheepskin bag or from humid climate conditions.

As well, with the Ezeedrone reeds, you can buy bass drone reeds separately, as some older styles of pipes need different bass drone reeds to get the correct tone, and tuning for today's bagpipe. Reeds are sold in sets of 2 tenor 1 bass, or you can but the individual bass only. Kinnaird Drone Reeds - These drone reeds have a special curved carbon fiber tongue. This results in giving the drones a nice cane sound. These reeds are easy to set up. You will notice that the reeds when set up properly will enhance your drones harmonics. This is a set of 3 drone reeds, 2 tenor and one bass. Kinnaird Evolution Drone Reeds Kinnaird Evolution Drone Reeds - The Kinnaird Carbon Fibre Drone reed was redesigned in 2013 to improve the brightness and brilliance of the tenor reeds. The Kinnaird Evolution Drone Reeds are bright but not buzzy. The very popular Kinnaird Bass reed is largely the same as the previous design with slightly more power.
