Afro ESC USB Programming ToolShort answer is no…you don’t need one at all!You will need an ESC which is more than a simple power transistor, it's a device that takes a single signal and turns it into series of rapidly changing 3 stage electrical cycles to spin an electro magnet at high speeds making constant rapid changes in speed multiple times per second. multiply that by the number of rotors you will be using and even if you got code to control your mosfet or power transistor (times # of rotors) you would be eating up so many cycles of your arduino processor it would not be able to keep up. (might be better with a 32 bit proc, they exist a lot, but i would still vote for using those extra cycles for instrumentation and not flight control, when ESC’s are near the same price as a decent Mosfet.best bet is an ESC, they are super cheap, 20amp ESC’s running $12–40 for some of the cheaper ones that run well. my 12amp high frequency ESCs running simonk firmware out of the box
