Parrot's AR Drone 2.0 has to be the ultimate in mobile accessories. Controlled via smartphone or tablet, the Drone puts out an HD live feed from a front-mounted camera to your smart device.There is other Bluetooth and Wi-Fi-controlled gadgetry out there, but the Parrot is a cut above. The Drone is more like a military-grade miniature helicopter than the usual range of budget iPhone toys.The limited-availability 'Power Edition' ships with two 1,500 mAh batteries, bringing total flight time up to 36 minutes, from the usual 12 found with standard AR Drones.This is a good thing, as the AR Drone is immensely fun. It's a 'quadricopter', which means it features four rotor blades and increased levels of stability in flight.Setting the Drone up involves connecting your device to its own built-in Wi-Fi network and then firing up the Parrot-made app.From there you get a direct feed of the front-mounted HD video cam on the Parrot, as well as a pair of joysticks to control the quadricopter.In standard flight mode, the Drone keeps itself stable, leaving you to move it backwards and forwards as well as up and down.

It's very easy to control.You can, however, switch to a direct control mode or even use your device's accelerometer to control the Drone like you would a tilt-based racing game.We found learning the ropes in the standard control method the best idea. It's also a good plan to keep the included indoor flight shell on the Drone even when outside, simply because it keeps its rotor blades safe.The automatic landing mode is especially handy, as it does away with the most difficult part of flight, as is the take-off function. The Drone also features a camera mounted on the bottom, so you can see what's below it, making landing even easier.If we had to pick a fault with the Drone's functionality, it would be with its Wi-Fi chip. In areas where there are multiple networks, interference can cause a temporary loss of control with the device. Not a good thing.The app can be set up to record flights and save them to your device. Picture quality isn't great, so attaching something like a GoPro might be an idea for those who want the best video.
