In this video I show how to solder and install the mirumod on my Parrot AR.Drone (specifically version 1.0). I don't have the 2.0's so can't get into too much details about it so please check the latest documentation regarding the newer versions of the AR.Even though I'm demonstrating this mod on a AR.Drone 1.0, a lot of the information is still relevant to the newer models with regards to the programming and testing. Just make note of the necessary LLC (logic level converter) for the AR.Drone 2.0 or you'll FRY it!This is an update to a video I did back in 2010 which used a Yellow Jacket to talk via WiFi to the Parrot AR.The mirumod by miru allows you to use your Parrot AR.Drone with a regular RC radio transmitter (Spektrum DX6i / Turnigy 9x / etc). This is an improved mod that doesn't require WiFi and you don't need to use your iOS or Android device. It uses an Arduino Pro Mini and plugs directly into port under ARDrone. You can use any programmable radio system as long as it has 5 or more channels. This is a custom part for my Parrot AR Drone 1.0 that was converted to work with an RC transmitter like the Spektrum DX6i. I had to create a custom bottom plate so there would be room for the cable. I thought this might be useful for someone out there. You can print one if you lost your original cover plate or maybe you're modding the AR.I'm not sure if it'll work with the newer 2.0 AR. One of the common mods that popped up on the internet were ways of extending the range on the AR Drone. It normally uses a local Wi-Fi connection to your phone or tablet for control and video signals. Many found this quite restrictive and have gone pretty far in extending that range. The first and easiest was just to set up a higher power Wi-Fi Bridge where you’ll be flying. The Drone only has about 15db of wi-fi magic in it, so anything stronger than that is an improvement. There were too many variations on this to delve into the details, but as you see, there’s not much too it. The second method is to completely replace the Wi-Fi control system with a nice R/C controller. This will greatly increase your range as well as give you extra channels for triggering different attachments (usually lights).  I’ve seen two main methods used.
